Our Goals

We aim to provide access to shelter, safety, physical and mental healthcare, education, personal care, art, entertainment and technology to mothers, their children or young adults primarily in poor regions of the world. We either achieve these goals through our own actions “on the ground” or through specific campaigns initiated by local associations whom we have partnered with.

In all our actions, direct or indirect, we have in mind the right for all to live in a healthy and ecological environment. We ensure children’s well-being is preserved and we facilitate access to food, basic necessities, school supplies, information technology and, if possible, higher education.

We strive to protect women, children and adolescents who are the victims of abuse and ill-treatment and help them overcome their hardships.

Our Guiding Principles

The following principles guide the choice of projects in which the Association invests and the way in which the activities are conducted:

  1. MAYA’s primary commitment is to mothers, children, adolescents and young adults, for their health, well-being and development. The association also works to promote equality of chances for women around the world and members of the LGBT community, primarily in the Philippines.
  2. The selected projects fall within the scope of the Association’s corporate purpose, as described in the statutes. The Association is active in Switzerland and internationally.
  3. MAYA strives to meet its goals in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner.
  4. MAYA’s activities are built on the commitment of its volunteers. Their enthusiasm and good humor guide the Committee in its choices.
  5. The granting of a donation or support by an individual, business or government in any form does not interfere with MAYA’s plans.
  6. MAYA’s acceptance of support does not limit the Association in its actions or statements with respect to certain economic sectors or businesses.
  7. In principle, MAYA does not accept donations or support of any kind from sectors whose activities are incompatible with MAYA’s ethics, namely in particular: drugs, weapons, pharma, sex trade and money gambling. MAYA also does not accept donations or support from businesses visibly engaged in activities involving forced labor, child labor, or unreasonable exploitation of natural resources.
