Malnourished children

One of our local coordinator on the Island of Palawan in the Philippines noticed that many children in his Barangay (township) are malnourished. After a discussion with the Health Clerk of the Barangay he made the suggestion to organize two feeding sessions for these malnourished children.

Upon approval from the authorities we arranged the logistics around grocery shopping, cooking and meal distribution to the kids.

Our ambitious goal was to feed 100 malnourished kids within two sessions (morning and lunch) in one day.

Feeding sessions

Morning meal : Arozcaldo (rice eggs and chicken)

The name Arroz Caldo was Spanish in origin but the dish itself originates from the Chinese. Congee, which is a type of rice porridge, was already popular in the Philippines and other Asian countries before the Spaniards colonized the Philippines Arroz Caldo is a delicious Filipino chicken porridge made by cooking rice in chicken stock until it’s thick and creamy.

Lunch meal : Spaghetti, Fried Chicken, Apple & Juice (kids’ favourite)

How it went

We are very pleased to let you know that we have reached the goal to cook and feed 100 malnourished kids. The event took place in the basketball court and went very well. We also established a good partnership with the local authorities and we are now planning similar events with them.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our local coordinator and all the helpers who participated to the various activities such as grocery shopping, cooking and food distribution throughout the day.
